Purpose:
This analysis
will determine the best of four milk chocolate bars based on deliciousness. The four bars are of the following brands: Hershey's, Lindor, Hazelwood, and Dove. All of the bars are the standard size and bought at
Walgreen's. To determine which bar tasted best, a poll of 9 people of
varying ages was taken. They rated the bars on a 1 to 4 scale, which related to
a point system. The bar with the most points is deemed most delicious. Unit
price and calories per gram will both be calculated for anyone interested and
to help make the final decision. To determine unit price, the Walgreen's
original price (not sale price, tax not included) was used.
The final decision
will rely heavily on the delicious ratings.

Just the Facts:
A taste was done for the four different bars by a total of 9 people. They were told not to look at the chocolate to eliminate any bias. Each person rated all four bars a number from 1 to 4, 1 being the most delicious, and 4 being the least. Each rating related to points: 1 receives 4 points, 2 gets 3 points, 3 gets 2 points, and 4 gets 1 point.
Here are the results:
- The Hershey's bar scored a total of 40 points.
- The Lindor bar received 39 points.
- Hazelwood totaled 14 points.
- The Dove bar received 34 points.
The unit price was also
calculated in order to help determine which bar is worth the money. This was figured
out by taking the original price and dividing it by the weight printed on the
wrapper.
- Hershey's: $1.09/43grams = 0.0253$/g
- Lindor: $2.69/100grams = 0.0269$/g
- Hazelwood: $1.79/90grams = 0.0199$/g
- Dove: $1.09/40.8grams = 0.0267$/g
The third item I took into account was the calorie count for each
bar. Instead of just posting the calories per serving, I posted the calories
per gram. This was done by taking the calories per serving and multiplying it
by the number of servings. Then I divided the total calories by the grams in
each bar.
·
Hershey’s: 210 total calories/43grams = 4.88cal/g
·
Lindor: 720 total calories/100grams = 7.20cal/g
·
Hazelwood: 475 total calories/90grams = 5.27cal/g
·
Dove: 220 total
calories/40.8grams = 5.39cal/g
Analysis:
The chocolate bar
rated most delicious is the Hershey's bar. Lindor came in a very close second.
Then Dove came in third, with Hazelwood in a distant last place. Because
the Hershey's and Lindor bars came so close, it shows that the two are
different preferences in the poll group. To help anyone figure out which one
would be best to his or her liking, read the following descriptions given to
each chocolate bar.
Hershey's was easy to
break into sections, creamy, and would melt a few moments after being bitten.
It has a slightly bitter after taste to some. Lindor, when bitten into, would
melt right away. It is creamy and has an almost marshmallow lightness to it.
Hazelwood is a hard chocolate and was difficult to break. It tasted similar to
the little chocolates found in the "Days until Christmas" calendars.
Dove is rich, slow to melt, and maybe a little too sweet for some taste
pallets.
The chocolate bar with
the best unit price is Hazelwood at about 2 cents per gram. The other three are
all about 2.5 cents per gram. If you are looking for a cheap chocolate fix,
Hazelwood is the way to go if you don't mind sacrificing funds for flavor. The
milk chocolate bar with the second lowest unit price is Hershey's. The
third lowest unit price is the Dove bar, and the highest unit price
is the Lindor bar.
The lowest calorie count per gram is found in the Hershey’s bar.
The highest calorie count belongs to the Lindor bar. Hazelwood has the second
lowest count, and Dove has the second highest. If your judge here was focused
strictly on health (funny since it’s chocolate), Hershey’s is the best bet, and
Lindor is the worst.
Conclusion:
Seeing that the
Hershey's bar has been scored as most delicious, has a low unit price, and the
fewest calories per gram, I would rate it the best of the 4 bars. Lindor is so
close to a tie with Hershey's for flavor that I rate it in second place; even
though it has the highest unit price and calorie count, I deem it worth the
extra $0.0016 (not even a half penny) and 2.32 calories per gram more it
costs than Hershey's. Because Hazelwood was lacking so badly in flavor, I
could not put it anywhere but in last place. If you are looking for a
cheap chocolate fix, Hazelwood is the way to go if you don't mind sacrificing
funds for flavor. This leaves third place for the Dove bar. It is not a bad bar
of chocolate; just isn’t as palatable as the Lindor or Hershey’s.

DeFazio said that Laughs are with the most exceedingly awful chocolates because of the high measure of sugar, calories, and fat. In any case, that doesn't prevent individuals from enjoying the sweets.
